MANILA, Philippines – President Aquino has announced July 17 a regular holiday across the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr.
Eid’l Fitr marks the end of Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The Muslims world celebrates it for three days after the end of the month of fasting.
The palace has declared this today after Pnoy signed Proclamation No. 1070. The government is also mandated to declare Eid’l Fitr a national holiday under Republic Act 9177.
According to the proclamation, “In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Friday, 17 July 2015, as a regular holiday throughout the country.”
The proclamation also said “the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr.”
On the other hand, the government had said that proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha will be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar or upon Islamic astronomical calculations.
Filipinos will again look forward for a long weekend next week since July 17 falls on a Friday.
