Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief Director General Aaron Aquino welcomed the term extension of Philippine National Police Chief Ronaldo “Bato” Dela Rosa.
According to Aquino, he’s happy that President Rodrigo Duterte decided to extend the term of Dela Rosa. “We’re happy and of course, we respect the decision of the President. Kung ano gusto ng Presidente, we are for him,” he told reporters.
Dela Rosa earlier expressed intention to retire as the country’s top co after his supposed retirement from the service last January, but Duterte extended his term for another three months.
The 2,000-strong PDEA was tasked by Duterte to take the lead in the anti-drug campaign last year after the roughly 175,000-strong PNP faced allegations of abuse in the drug war.
The PNP last month relaunched its flagship “Oplan Tokhang” (Knock and Plead) after being taken out on the government’s massive campaign against illegal drugs for two months.
The PDEA Chief also praised Dela Rosa, saying that he remains as one of the President’s hardworking and trusted men, while also reiterating the anti-drug agency’s support for the police.
“Nakikita niya (Duterte) siguro sa pag-extend ni chief PNP, mas makakaganda na we are supporting. The PDEA will always support the PNP,” Aquino said.
