Garnering recognition in both the local and international scene, SM Cinema bagged awards at the 17thPhilippine Quill Awards with their Reel-to-Real Campaign.
The awarding ceremony organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines brought together recognized communications professionals in a night that celebrated the industry’s best and most deserving campaigns. SM Cinema’s Reel to Real Campaign was awarded in the Communications Management category, winning Quill Awards of Excellence for both the Customer Relations and Special & Experiential Events categories.
SM Cinema was also recently nominated by the prestigious PR Awards Asia in Hong Kong, which celebrates the most outstanding campaigns in Asia-Pacific’s public relations industry. The Reel-to-Real campaign was a finalist in the PR Events category.
The Reel-to-Real campaign is a series of activations timed with film releases throughout the year wherein SM Cinema brought to life movies and created spaces where moviegoers could immerse themselves into the world of their favorite films. The initiative not only increased brand mileage but also positively impacted sales and cinema attendance from the previous year.
For the release of The Greatest Showman, SM Cinema partnered with 20thCentury Fox to release a Sing-Along version of the movie in select SM Cinema branches, while guests in an exclusive screening witnessed live performances of the movie’s hits from actors in costume.
For the different Marvel releases, SM Cinema partnered with The Walt Disney Company Philippines and invited guests to The Secrets of Wakanda Exhibit for Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp Not the Actual Size Exhibit for Ant-Man and the Wasp and The Avengers Hall & Fan Event for Avengers: Infinity War.
Installations based on characters, locations and items from the movies were put on display while the Ant-Man exhibit also featured gigantic, blown-up items, allowing fans to see through the eyes of Ant-Man. Meanwhile, fans who attended the biggest Marvel fan meet were surprised by a live video conference with Avengers: Infinity War actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Karen Gillan, and director Joe Russo.
An interactive exhibit was also made for the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom that had a Jurassic World service car display and the nest of Owen’s lead raptor Blue. Guests were also tested with dino games and quizzes that guaranteed exclusive Jurassic World prizes for the winners.
SM Cinema also organized a fan fest in line with the release of the anticipated film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. The exhibit featured a Star Wars-inspired hyper-space walkway tunnel, photo booth, and other displays while also holding a light-saber handling tutorial to give them the complete Jedi experience.
The Superman 80thAnniversary Fan Event was also held for the superhero’s anniversary, which showcased some memorable Superman items such as Kal-El’s ship and Kryptonian Prison Rings and displayed some Superman fun facts. The event was attended by Superman cosplayers and movie geeks.
For the release of Deadpool 2, SM Cinema invited several Deadpool cosplayers for a fan event at SM Aura, who were commissioned by SM Cinema to go around the mall and do normal mallgoer things in true Deadpool fashion. The Deadpool cosplayers were seen serving popcorn at SnackTime, chilling at the Hans Solo Photo Wall and even going to his very own screening.
The Incredibles 2: Incredible Adventure meanwhile is an interactive exhibit that was made for the release of Incredibles 2 with activities inspired by the super family members such as Violet’s Force Field Booth, Dash’s Timed Obstacle Dash, Elastigirl’s Trampoline and Mr. Incredible’s logo builder.
Finally, in partnership with Warner Bros., SM Cinema brought the stars of Aquaman, Jason Mamoa and Amber Heard with director James Wan to the Philippines to a fan event at SM Mall of Asia, where they made a surprise visit to the special Asian Premiere of Aquaman in IMAX Theatre at SM Mall of Asia.
