Global cybersecurity leader Fortinet recently released its 2025 Cyberthreat Predictions Report where the firm highlighted an evolving cyber-attack landscape.
According to Fortinet, among the emerging threats include the rise in CaaS or Cybercrime-as-a-Service as providers offer buyers everything they need to execute an attack.
“However, we expect that CaaS groups will increasingly embrace specialization, with many groups focusing on providing offerings that home in on just one segment of the attack chain,” Fortinet said.
Additionally, Fortinet warned companies against cloud-specific vulnerabilities being leveraged by attackers.
“Although cloud isn’t new, it’s increasingly piquing the interest of cybercriminals,” the firm said.
Another thing to watch out for is how automated hacking tools are now being sold to the dark web marketplace, Fortinet said.
“While we’re already seeing some cybercrime groups rely on AI to power CaaS offerings, we expect this trend to flourish,” Fortinet said.
“We anticipate that attackers will use the automated output from LLMs to power CaaS offerings and grow the market, such as taking social media reconnaissance and automating that intelligence into neatly packaged phishing kits,” it added.
To combat these threats, Fortinet emphasized the importance of cooperation among stakeholders.
“Pursuing global collaborations, creating public-private partnerships, and developing frameworks to combat threats are all vital to enhancing our collective resilience,” Fortinet said.
“Many related efforts—like the World Economic Forum Cybercrime Atlas initiative, of which Fortinet is a founding member—are already underway, and we anticipate that more collaborative initiatives will emerge to meaningfully disrupt cybercrime,” it added.
