In order to show gratitude to the Heroes of Marawi, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA)provides unlimited free rides at the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) to all active soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Emmanuel Garcia said this was to acknowledge the heroism and sacrifices of AFP troops in securing the country’s safety against terrorism as well as other illegal acts.
He added that even in civilian attire, all active military personnel can enjoy this free service of LRT-2, noting they just have to present their identification cards.
This was strengthened through a memorandum of agreement signed on December 19 last year by the organization with the LRT Authority.
Among the signatories in the MOA were AFP Chief-of-Staff Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero and approved by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
“We are very thankful to the LRT Authority for their show of support to our troops in performing their duties. This is a big help to our soldiers. This certainly boosts the morale of our troops and gives us more reason to perform better in our mandate of serving the people and protecting the state,” Guerrero said.
In October, a memorandum between LRT Authority and the Philippine National Police was also inked to heighten the latter’s presence at selected LRT stations.
This also allowed all police officers to ride the trains of LRT-2 free-of-charge.
