The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has acquired 27 sets of brand new equipment from the Japanese government intended to boost the rehabilitation of Marawi City.
The turn-over ceremony was held in the war-torn city with Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, and DPWH Secretary Mark Villar gracing the said event.
Japan’s donation of heavy equipment to Marawi City is part of Tokyo’s ¥2.5-billion or $22-million grant under the Philippine-Japan Economic and Social Development Program.
According to DPWH, the equipment donated by Japan reflects the neighboring country’s “strong commitment” for the rehabilitation of Marawi and showcases the “robust bond” among the two countries.
The Philippines received seven hydraulic excavators, three bulldozers, three wheel loaders, two motor graders, and 12 dump trucks from Japan.
Also present during the turnover were Budget Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno, Embassy of Japan Economic Affairs Ministers Makoto Iyori, Defense Undersecretary Cesar Yano, Lanao del Sur Vice Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr., and other local and DPWH officials.
