There is no ratification from the Palace regarding Mary Jane Veloso’s fate, the Filipina death convict in Indonesia who was exonerated last minute in April.
According to Migrante International, the Indonesian government is anticipated to announce the list of those scheduled for firing squad by July 17, or towards the end of Ramadan.
It said that Veloso, who was condemned for drug trafficking might be included on the list.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said, “Let’s wait for our diplomats in Indonesia to confirm that. We will ask them if there is really such a report.”
The report about Veloso’s possible execution arose after Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee included a visit to Mary Jane on their trip to Indonesia.
The couple “tweeted” that they left on Tuesday.
It was remembered that Veloso’s life was spared in April after president Aquino personally appealed to Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the sidelines of the ASEAN (Association of the Southeast Asian Nations) summit in Malaysia.
The Pacman, who was training during that time for a historic fight with American boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., joined calls to save Veloso.
Filipinos were euphoric when Veloso was given temporary reprieve by the Indonesian government after her alleged recruiters succumbed to the authorities.
