The Hospital Management Asia (HMA) recently recognized Dr./BGen. Antonio Laperal Tamayo, Founder, CEO, and Chairman of University of Perpetual Help Medical Center–Las Piñas (PHMC-LP), as the recipient of the Hospital CEO of the Year (Excellence Award). This prestigious recognition coincides with the medical center’s milestone 50th anniversary.
Established in 1976 as a modest 50-bed community clinic, PHMC-LP has evolved over five decades into a leading tertiary healthcare institution servicing Southern Metro Manila. Today, the facility offers specialized care in cardiovascular medicine, oncology, kidney transplantation, neuroscience, and minimally invasive surgery.
Receiving the award on behalf of Dr./BGen. Antonio Laperal Tamayo is LTC Richard Antonio M. Tamayo and Dr. Rachel Antonette G. Tamayo, with them is Richard Ireland, CEO Clarion Events Asia.
“This recognition reflects 50 years of dedication and collective effort from our medical staff and support teams,” said Dr./BGen. Tamayo. “It affirms the vision we have pursued from the beginning: to build more than a hospital, but a sustainable, future-ready healthcare ecosystem, one that continuously advances its clinical capabilities, embraces new medical technologies, and evolves with the needs of the communities we serve. Ultimately, we are building an institution that will continue to care for generations to come,” he further added.
Building a Future-Ready Healthcare Ecosystem
PHMC-LP demonstrates this forward-looking vision through ongoing strategic investments in advanced technology and the continuous expansion of its surgical capabilities. These advancements empower clinical teams to address complex, evolving healthcare needs while delivering highly accurate, efficient, and patient-centered care.
To enhance its specialized medical offerings in 2026, PHMC-LP introduced two key technological innovations: the Symbia Pro.Specta Advanced Molecular Imaging System which allows medical practitioners to evaluate physiological disease functions for improved precision in cancer diagnosis and treatment tracking and the da Vinci Xi Fourth-generation Surgical System which help facilitate advanced, robot-assisted minimally invasive surgeries with enhanced dexterity, range, and accuracy.
The medical center plans to introduce additional cutting-edge medical technologies later this year to broaden its diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Operational & Quality Certifications
PHMC-LP is also the first hospital in the Philippines to earn a Quadruple ISO-Certified Integrated Management System, meeting rigorous international standards:
– ISO 14001:2025 – Environmental Management
– ISO 7101:2023 – Healthcare Quality Management
– ISO 50001:2018 – Energy Management Systems
– ISO 45001: 2018 – Occupational Health and Safety
In addition, it is also the country’s first AFP Affiliated Reserve Medical Center and the 1st Air Reserve Hospital reinforcing its role in national preparedness and its capacity to support the country’s healthcare response during emergencies and national crises.
As it celebrates half a century of service, PHMC-LP remains committed to combining cutting-edge diagnostic technology with globally accredited operating standards across all departments.
