Standing out in the Philippine ITO industry
A Country IT Lead shares his Career Success Story
Manila, Philippines – The Philippines’ information technology outsourcing (ITO) industry has seen significant strides in the past decade, setting the stage for the success of many talented and hard-working Filipinos who have flocked to this sector for the opportunities it provides.
One of these hard-workers is Bryan Aninon, who through the benefit of talent and determination was able to make use of the opportunities provided by the ITO industry to become the Country IT Lead and Director at TELUS International Philippines (TIP).
TIP started its operations in 2001, providing career opportunities in the contact center, IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) space across four sites. It opened its doors to Bryan, who started his journey with the company as a Network Engineer back in 2004.
In those early days, Bryan was mostly in charge of administration, data center cabling, equipment installation and maintenance, which served as the foundation of his learning and enabled him to have a flourishing career. Looking back, Bryan is thankful for these assignments. “As a network engineer in TIP, I gained significant exposure to the IT industry, which gave me an edge in my next endeavors,” he shared.
Always eager to expand his horizons and his skillset, he broadened his knowledge by moving to other companies to gain experience in the operations side of IT.
However, Bryan knew that there was only one place where he could pursue long-term growth. Despite the rewarding experience with other ITO companies, Bryan eventually returned to TIP. “With TIP, it just feels like home, and I feel that I’m able to excel more within the company’s unparalleled corporate culture,” he said. He highlighted the four values that made him decide to go back to where he started: the company’s unique way of embracing change; its passion for growth; its spirited teamwork; and the courage to innovate.
Bryan acknowledges that TIP was instrumental to his success as a professional, allowing him to realize and understand what his career aspirations really were. “When I was starting out, I was on my own. But now, as the company expands, it makes sure that members of the company grow with it as well. I am grateful that TIP has provided me with the right amount of exposure to different facets of IT.”
Through TIP, Bryan’s soft skills, such as communication, presentation and relationship management, have grown equally with his technical skills. Having installed and configured network routers and switches, he is now also able to lead a team of his own, implementing large scale projects both locally and internationally. He is responsible for providing leadership and operational management of all technological platforms and developing strategies that support the user community across all TIP sites.
For him, becoming a multifaceted IT professional is one of his biggest achievements. When asked about this, Bryan says he owes every milestone and his overall career success to the opportunities consistently presented to him by TIP.
He is deeply grateful that he has stayed on with TIP. When ITO started in TIP 8 years ago, the company had less than 100 team members. Today, this segment of the business has grown significantly.
“Apart from enjoying its unique culture and the many benefits of being a TIP team member, one can also expect career and professional enhancements through certification trainings and professional development,” said Bryan.
Bryan stands proudly among the successful Filipino IT professionals who are giving the Philippines a big edge in the BPO and ITO fields. His success is also that of the Philippine ITO industry, and a testimony on how success comes to those who have the determination and commitment to learning and professional growth.
