As the world’s leading outdoor brand, The North Face stays true to its commitment of encouraging more people to never stop exploring as it constantly supplies authentic, innovative, and technically advanced outdoor gears and apparel. Beyond its relentless dedication for outdoor product innovation, The North Face has likewise been an influential force in the outdoor community with its engaging outdoor-centric campaigns.
In line with its pursuit to promote wellness and active lifestyle, The North Face conceived The North Face 100, an annual trail running event which was widely embraced by outdoor enthusiasts across the country. Following its success, The North Face is beyond thrilled to introduce an all-new format for this year with the first-ever TNF Outdoor Challenge Philippines.
Happening on November 18 at the Camsur Watersports Complex, the TNF Outdoor Challenge will not be your usual racing event. Rather, it will be a trail running race held within an expansive outdoor course that will feature various obstacles – reflecting The North Face’s advocacy of nurturing an inclusive community of active individuals who are in touch with the outdoors. With this, the TNF Outdoor Challenge Race is expecting at least a thousand attendees including fitness and outdoor enthusiasts, runners, mountain climbers, hikers, and athletes from all corners of the Philippines.
With two race categories of 11km and 22km, the racing course which is dubbed as the Outdoor Endurance Challenge Course will be made up of a mixed terrain route, 12 mountain challenge obstacles for the 22km category, 7 mountain challenge for the 11km category, and four different ecosystem zones – earth, endurance, forest, and water. Leveraging upon the nature-oriented philosophy of the brand, the race will feature adventure challenges in various points of the route that will be comparable to training obstacles like mud-crawling, rock climbing, fallen tree hurdles, etc.
Guaranteed to test the limits of participants, another crucial component of the TNF Outdoor Challenge is its goal of empowering the bonds of the outdoor and fitness community. As such, The North Face has already kicked-off a series of Outdoor Training Sessions across the metro. Recognizing the vast purposes and reasons that motivate individuals to train, the Outdoor Training Sessions seek to encourage the community to train for a purpose. This time around, Outdoor Training Sessions will be geared towards preparing the participants for the upcoming TNF Outdoor Challenge.
Enlisting the help of TNF brand ambassadors who are adept with constructing workout routines, the outdoor training sessions seek to help participants hone and enhance the muscle groups that will be engaged on the day of the race with 1.5 hour-workout routines. Through the sessions, participants not only get a chance to workout with the guidance of fitness experts but also, gain a platform to talk amongst their peers about relevant issues like training programs, pre-race meal preparation, warm up routines, etc.
Upcoming Outdoor Training Sessions happened last October 11 at ROX BHS where Hong Kong-based trainer Ruben Payan Jr. leads the session (Registration at The North Face Aura and The North Face Glorietta 4), October 18 at the QC Memorial Circle (Registration at The North Face Annex and The North Face UP Town) and October 25 at ROX BHS (Registration at The North Face Aura and The North Face Glorietta 4). All sessions start at 7:30pm all the way until 9:00pm.
The founder of a movement called Powerful Human, Ruben Payan Jr. is an embodiment of the limitless possibilities that one can transcend with sheer dedication. After his life-changing experience in the Marine Corps, Payan went on to pursue the impossible – conquer the Seven Summits. From the highest points in North America and Europe to the paramount peaks of Mt. Everest and Mt. Vinson in Antarctica, Payan charged head-on and emerged victorious. But as expected from the superhuman who knows no bounds, Payan, after finally completing his seventh summit, even attempted to overcome K2 in Pakistan, the third tallest and most volatile peak in the world.
Drawing from these extraordinary experiences of human triumph, Payan has since made it a mission to help other people uncover their greatness as a fitness professional and Master Trainer for the Asia Pacific arm of The North Face. Apart from running a successful studio in Beijing, China as well as establishing the Asia Pacific branch of the Institute of Human Performance (IHP) – a US-based organisation that epouses a functional approach to fitness training – Payan writes and runs programs to help The North Face’s regional trainers enhance their capabilities.
With the Outdoor Training Sessions, participants of the Outdoor Challenge Race are invited to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and train under the wing of Master Trainer Ruben Payan Jr. Interested participants for the TNF Outdoor Challenge Race may register at The North Face stores nationwide or online via www.TNFOUTDOORTRAININGPH.com until November 11 only.
