Mothers and children of C.H.I.L.D. Haus participate in alternative therapy session through art and essential oils
SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, is proud to present the “Salamat Mama: Portraits of Strength, Resilience, and Compassion” photo exhibit as part of its #StoriesMatter campaign advocating for women’s empowerment.
The exhibit features a photo contest highlighting the beauty and essence of motherhood, showcasing mothers who represent the six advocacies of SM Cares: Programs for the Environment, Persons with Disabilities, Women & Breastfeeding, Children & Youth, Senior Citizens, and the SM Bike-friendly initiative. Awarding winners was done simultaneously in SM City Manila, SM City Bacolod, and SM Lanang Premier in Davao, where the exhibit is open to the public starting on May 14, 2023.
Gilbert Dela Menes of Manila is awarded the Grand Prize by Atty. Pearl Turley, SM Cares Program Director, Mr. Richard Caluyo, SM Cares AVP for Marketing and guest judges, Ms. Ruffa Paglalunan and Mr. Ariel Sebelino of the Philippine Press Institute
In addition, SM Cares also partnered with C.H.I.L.D. Haus, a foundation that provides shelter and support for children with cancer and their families, for a special segment of the exhibit at SM City Manila. The children and mothers of C.H.I.L.D. Haus participated in an art therapy session with artist Jaymee Liz, a representative of Art Show Philippines and guidance counselor, who shared how painting can be an emotional outlet in their challenging journey. This was followed by a wellness talk by Bing Guevara, co-founder of Breastfeeding Pinays and essential oils enthusiast, addressing the stress of motherhood and providing support for their holistic well-being. The activity was supported by SM Stationery and Young Living.
Mothers and their children with cancer from CHILD Haus learn how different strokes and colors can be used to express emotions as an outlet for the challenging journey they face.
“The Salamat Mama photo exhibit is a tribute to the inspiring women in our lives and in our communities, and a platform where their stories can be shared,” says Atty. Pearly Turley, SM Cares Program Director for Women. “We are proud to recognize and celebrate the strength, resilience, and compassion of mothers everywhere and thank the many photographers who harnessed their talent to capture these moments that matter. Likewise, we recognize that the journey of motherhood is never easy and we hope that through creative expression and alternative therapy, we are able to provide support for the holistic well-being of mothers.”
