Global sporting brand Decathlon Philippines recently hosted a one-day, region-wide event called “Free To Play: A Sports Festival For All” where sports fans and athletes gathered for various expert-led classes in different sports disciplines for free.
Former Azkals midfielder James Younghusband led the opening ceremony of the event held at the Decathlon store in Tiendesitas, Pasig.
Following the successful run of the event in 2022, the Decathlon brand in Masinag, Antipolo expanded its playing field this year, covering the playground and parking areas. Other Decathlon branches in Alabang, Pasig, and Clark, also opened areas for the “Free To Play” program.
During the event, Decathlon Alabang offered classes in climbing and gymnastics and Decathlon Clark hosted Arnis classes. Meanwhile, Decathlon Alabang, Masinag, and Pasig opened the sports area for people with disabilities.
According to Decathlon Philippines president Hans Iff, ‘Free To Play’ is part of the company’s mission to sustainably make sports accessible to all.
“And now with passionate teammates, supportive local government units (LGUs) and social impact partners, we offer a playground without boundaries and limitations, where everyone can freely celebrate the wonders of sport with us,” the official said.
“We are beyond thrilled to be able to serve everyone and be an avenue in showing the wonders of sport,” said Iff. “We hope our participants were able to find their newfound passion at the Free To Play event, and we look forward to serving more Filipinos in the years to come.”
