The Los Angeles-based Amaré Magazine named Filipino-American Maria Victoria Mejia as one of its Heroes of Change awardees.
Mejia is the luxury bag and accessory designer of fast-rising brand Viktorya-Minaudière which produces delicately designed bags made from premium shells. The fashion figure received the recognition last February at Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California. She was the lone Filipino-born honoree in a roster that included KTLA News anchor Courtney Friel, author Dr. Natasha Weems, and Jackie Christie and Renee Graziano – from VH1’s Basketball Wives L.A and Mob Wives, respectively.
Mejia said, “I am filled with gratitude for this incredible opportunity. Being recognized and celebrated by Amaré Magazine means so much to me as it highlights the passion I have for my work.”
Shining on new stars
The print and digital magazine noted that “Mejia’s commitment to craftsmanship and dedication to sustainable luxury make her a true inspiration and a deserving honoree at the Heroes of Change Awards.”
Founded in 2016 by fashion expert George Rojas, Amaré Magazine quickly established itself through glittering issues and glitzy events, and with its mission being “to shine a light on new and upcoming artists and entrepreneurs, pushed on by its core values of empowerment, integrity, and philanthropy.”
Rising star in fashion
Mejia’s Viktorya-Minaudière bags and accessories have attracted fashionistas, celebrities, and prominent people. The brand was featured on the Golden Globes website and has graced prestigious events like the fashion weeks in Los Angeles and New York.
Mejia also made her presence felt at the Asian Fashion Week, Metropolitan Fashion Week, and Orange County Fashion Week. She expressed, “This recognition serves as a reminder of why I do what I do and the impact I hope to make. I truly appreciate the support and encouragement from everyone who has been part of my journey. This moment inspires me to keep striving for excellence and to continue sharing my mission with others.”
From lab to runways
Mejia earned a Bachelor’s Degree on medical technology back in the Philippines, as she established herself as a hospital laboratory professional in the US.
She launched her bag collection at the Philippine Fashion and Cultural Expo in L.A. in late 2022.
The Outstanding Filipino Awards (TOFA) recognized her for fashion and style during its 2023 edition held at the Zipper Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
She stressed, “Being recognized as a Heroes of Change on a global stage is an honor I will cherish forever. This prestigious award not only acknowledges my efforts but also highlights my roots and the importance of Filipino craftsmanship in redefining luxury.”
