Household brand MAGGI is pushing for awareness among Filipino families on the importance of enough iron intake to address the prevalence of anemia.
According to the 2021 Expanded National Nutrition Survey of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), anemia continues to affect 10.4 percent of all Filipinos, especially high-risk groups like young children and pregnant women, with iron deficiency as the most common cause.
Among the efforts that MAGGI hosts in line with this include ongoing partnerships with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI).
Under this, MAGGI promotes awareness on the importance of a diversified diet and the inclusion of excellent sources of iron like lean meats, poultry, legumes, and dark leafy greens.
MAGGI provides recipe services and conducts culinary workshops and school programs such as the Sarap Sustansya Cooking Competition to support the said goal.
Additionally, the brand also continuously improves its products. According to MAGGI, Magic Sarap, one of its popular seasoning products, contains iron.
“Addressing iron deficiency is crucial to promote optimal health outcomes for the Filipino population,” said NestlĂ© Philippines business executive officer for food and dairy culinary business unity Rosalyn Simba. “This is why an essential part of the MAGGI Sarap Sustansya advocacy is to help improve Filipinos’ access to iron-rich food through our recipe services, nutrition outreach activities in schools and communities and the fortification of our products.”
