Mapua University is set to celebrate a grand milestone next year as it marks a century of excellence that cemented its position as among the premier engineering and technological universities in the Philippines and one of the world’s best schools.
Established in 1925 with just 75 students, Mapua University takes pride in its curriculum anchored on cutting-edge research and academic innovation that now serves thousands of learners.
“The legacy that Mapua has built since 1925 is the result of our collective efforts to gain local and international recognition. The same efforts allow our educators to empower learners from all walks of life, in building pathways to promising careers,” said Mapua president and chief executive officer Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo.
To date, Mapua has campuses in Intramuros, Makati, Laguna, and Davao, with 70 undergraduate programs, 50 graduate degrees, a senior high school, and short courses for working adults.
The university also expanded its programs to include energy engineering, data science, game development, financial technology, and business intelligence and analytics.
This month, Mapua, along with its sister schools Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna and Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao received a Quality Matters (QM) certification for its online courses — the first school system in the country to get the said recognition.
“We ensure that students develop future-proof skills that can be easily applied to any work site. This strategy is why Mapúa graduates are highly preferred by employers and excel in board exams – in the last two decades, we’ve had over 400 topnotchers. They have industry-relevant hard skills and exceptional soft skills,” said Dr. Lilibeth Sabino, Mapúa executive vice president for academic affairs.
Mapua debuted in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking (WUR) in 2023 along with other three universities in the Philippines. It’s also consistently a Quacquarelli Symonds 4-Star institution, joining the top 100 universities in Southeast Asia.
Mapua also launched programs in health sciences, nursing and business including Master in Business Administration, Master of Arts in Psychology, and Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Management in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU).
Expanding further the collaboration, ASU also onboarded OpenAI to Mapua University for the utilization of artificial intelligence for enhanced student access, streamlined processes, and new research opportunities.
Student modules are also offered including Basic Prompt Engineering with ChatGPT and Scripting ChatGPT with Python.
Prioritizing its student welfare, Mapua also improved its facilities and assets with a new canteen and clinic in its Intramural campus, Cisco-powered digital classrooms, and a soon-to-open Medicine wing in the Mapúa-Arizona State University Human Health Learning and Innovation Center in the Makati campus.
