Philippine Team bagged 27 medals in China Math contests

One of the world’s toughest math contests was held in Shenzhen in Guangdong, China at the China Girls Mathematical Olympiad (CGMO) from August 10-14. All the delegates from the Philippines gained medals.

Here are the silver medals winners:

• Andrea Jaba – St. Jude Catholic School (Manila)
• Jinger Chong – St. Jude Catholic School (Manila)

Bronze medals winners:

• Isabel Jocyn Villanueva – PAREF Woodrose School (Muntinlupa)
• Natalie Beatrice Dy – St. John’s Institute (Bacolod City)
• Tiffany Mae Ong – Immaculate Conception Academy (San Juan)

The Philippines won two silver and two bronze medals in the contest last year.

The United States, Singapore, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Macau, Hong Kong, the Philippines and host China, were among the participating countries and territories in the CGMO. It was China who outdid the contest.

On the other hand, the Philippine team bagged 19 bronze and 3 gold medals, and 30 merit awards at the 2015 World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) contest held in Guilin, China from August 8-12.

It was China, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Macau and the Philippines who joined the said contest.
